I was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. I always had the gift of being a special glow that catches the eyes of many people with my appearance. I am passionate about helping others with anything, including their health to improve and protect them from unwanted and harmful diseases. Serving others with strong leadership and compassion will continue to allow me to help people live a better life now and into the future. During the development towards success in my career I always found interest helping others by implementing health programs and health education and promotion events.
After a competitive application process stressing technical skills, motivation, adaptability, and cross-cultural understanding, the United States Peace Corps invited me to serve as an International Health Extension Agent in the African country of Zambia. I arrived in Zambia June 2015 to serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer (PCV) under the Community Health Improvement Project (CHIP). During my time as a Peace Corps Volunteer, I worked in rural communities throughout Zambia teaching, training, and empowering individuals and communities in three major areas, including HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and Maternal and Child health with an edition of educating on other community health priority areas such as food & safety security, nutrition, and water and sanitation hygiene education, often times referred to as WASHE. One thing I did not do is to let anything be a distraction when it came to underserved health. Through faith, I did my best to learn the African local language, IchiBemba, which included intensive grammar, vocabulary, and other oral and written communication skills. I committed myself to 138 hours learning the local language that was highly important for integration in their eventual host community to communicate with others who was not fluent in speaking English.
Before joining the Peace Corps, I joined the organization, American-Jamaican Link Charitable Foundation (AJL), where I was able to practice my first profession expertise in a real impoverish environment that was needed to pursue my dream of improving others health crisis. I researched, network and educated information that was needed to be successful. The research and education part of my work in Jamaica was to find valuable information for a fish farm we were developing for the local people and educating the community about Hygiene and HIV/AIDs. The fish farm was to create jobs and increase food production to many people in Black River, Jamaica while the education portion was to spread awareness about different diseases that is affecting throughout the parish of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica.
My vision is to advance my education by obtaining a Doctorate degree in Public Health with a focus in Global/International Health Leadership. There, I would be able to help better assist the world by being many people’s miracle around the world.
Funny Fact About Myself: “I went skydiving in Las Vegas for my 21st birthday celebration. That is when I found out I have a special gift when it comes to singing. I hit a high note of 6 Octaves 2 and a semi-tone D3-F#7 for the 30 seconds free falling drop before the parachute opened.
